Beginning a journey to live more simply…

Kitchen Cabinets.

Sunday, February 20th, 2011:

Built some shelving underneath the stove-side countertop to provide dedicated space for storing cookware and other various kitchen-specific items. We made the frame out of 2X2’s to continue shaving weight where we can, and the shelves out of pine 1X12’s. The cabinet doors are framed with 1X2’s, panelled with knotty pine, and assembled with 3″ screws.

Also took advantage of this ‘February Fake Out’ (temperatures well over 70 degrees today!) to put a couple coats of polyurethane around the edges of the front door that we couldn’t get to when putting the original coats on before it was mounted. We simply did not have warm enough weather once it was hung to finish the job! This is an area where we went ahead and used a petroleum based product, due to the weathering factors that will besiege the front door…
